Local Artwork
Central Ridge Boutique Hotel supports local Queenstown artist, Rachael Errington. Rachael's artwork is currently being exhibited at the Hotel, all works are for sale and prints are available on request.
Rachael Errington is an artist and illustrator. She also studied graphic design, printmaking and photography.
Rachael loves using colour and light in her work and a lot of her work is from memory or imagination. She studied for a degree in Illustration in 2000 at Hereford College of Art and Design, England, and has since enjoyed expanding her media through travel and experimentation.
There have been several influences for her artwork, namely traveling around India and Nepal. She studied Buddhism and Buddhist art, and was fortunate enough to spend two weeks at the Dalai Lama's teachings whilst she was in India. This gave an enlightening insight into colour and texture appreciation, and challenged the way she perceived art. Shortly after this trip, Rachael won the Sylvia Dowset Memorial Award for printmaking, for a set of prints based on reflecting the spirituality of the Himalayas.
Another massive influence in the way in which Rachael uses light, was her experiences with The Burning Man Art Festival, Nevada. She has attended the festival for ten years, and is a co-manager for one of the departments. The festival is held on a 2000 year old elevated alkaline dried lake bed, surrounded by mountains, and has a truly inspirational array of amazing natural light and skies.
